Before Leaving Cambodia: Check Your Visa's Entry Conditions
A visa's entry type, its validity period, the authorised stay granted after arrival, and any later extension are different things. Cambodia's official e-Visa page currently describes both Visa T and Visa E as single entry, valid for three months, with an initial one-month stay. Before leaving Cambodia, check the document actually held and obtain GDI confirmation about the effect of departure and the requirements for returning.
Four Labels That Should Not Be Mixed Together
Entry type tells you how many entries an issued visa provides. Visa validity describes when that visa may be used for entry. Length of stay describes the initial stay published for the category, subject to the status granted at the border. An extension concerns permission after arrival. Reading one label as though it answers all four questions is how avoidable travel problems begin.
What The Official E-Visa Page Confirms
Cambodia's current e-Visa information lists both Tourist Visa T and Ordinary Visa E as single entry. Each is shown with three months of visa validity and a one-month length of stay. The listed fees are USD 30 and USD 35 respectively. The page does not state that every later extension has the same entry conditions or publish a universal re-entry procedure.
Single Entry Is Not A Decorative Label
A single-entry visa is issued for one entry. After it has been used, do not assume the original certificate can be used for another trip merely because a date printed on it has not passed. At the same time, this general point does not decide the effect of leaving while holding a later extension or endorsement. That requires review of the current document and confirmation from GDI.
Check The Actual Immigration Endorsement
Before booking travel, inspect every Cambodian visa, stamp, extension sticker, and annotation in the passport. Record the category, entry wording, issue date, expiry date, and any reference number. If the passport was renewed, damaged, or replaced, include the old document and any GDI correspondence in the review. Do not rely on the trip history of a friend whose status may differ.
Ask A Precise Question
Instead of asking whether a Cambodia visa is multiple entry in general, show the current document and ask: if the holder departs on the proposed date, what happens to this exact status, and what will be required to return? Ask whether another endorsement or a fresh visa is needed and whether nationality or entry point changes the answer. Record the date and source of the response.
Do Not Assume Duration Determines Entry Rights
The earlier draft stated that one- and three-month extensions were normally single entry and six- and twelve-month extensions generally multiple entry. We could not verify that duration-based rule in the public official sources cited here. Even where that pattern is described in commercial material, the safe action is to confirm the endorsement actually issued rather than infer entry rights from duration alone.
Do Not Assume A Later Endorsement Can Always Be Added
The earlier draft also said that a multiple-entry endorsement could be added during the year. The official pages reviewed do not substantiate that as a universal option or procedure. Ask GDI whether any additional permission is available for the status held, what documents are required, and whether it must be obtained before departure.
Travel While Changing Jobs Needs Two Checks
Anyone changing employment should review both immigration status and work authorisation. This article does not establish that a short extension is sponsor-free or that it can safely bridge a job search. Nor does permission to return to Cambodia establish permission to work after return. GDI and MLVT administer different parts of that position.
Allow Time For An Official Answer
Check before buying a non-refundable ticket. If the public page does not answer the question, contact GDI or an appropriately qualified Cambodian adviser with a clear copy of the relevant document. Airport or airline staff may check travel documents, but they do not replace an advance decision from the authority that administers immigration status.
Keep A Departure File
Carry the passport, visa or extension copy, travel itinerary, accommodation details, and any written GDI instruction relevant to the trip. Keep a secure digital copy separate from the passport. If a fresh visa is required for return, use the official government application channel and verify the current eligible entry points before travelling.
Getting It Right
The reliable rule is not that every extension of a certain duration behaves the same way. It is that the holder should verify the entry conditions printed on the actual document and ask GDI about the effect of departure before leaving. We can help identify the questions and assemble the record, but government permission and border decisions cannot be guaranteed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reuse a single-entry Cambodia e-Visa?
A single-entry visa is issued for one entry. Do not assume the original certificate remains usable for another entry after it has been used, even if its validity date has not passed.
Does a long Cambodia extension always include multiple entry?
Do not assume so from duration alone. The official public sources reviewed do not establish a universal duration-based rule. Check the actual endorsement and ask GDI before travelling.
Can I add a multiple-entry endorsement before I leave?
The public official pages cited here do not guarantee that option for every status. Ask GDI what is available for the exact document held and complete any required step before departure.
