Visa guide by destination

Phnom Penh. Siem Reap. Kampot. Kep. Each has its own pace of life and its own Immigration office — local knowledge matters.

Cambodia's four main expat centres each suit a different kind of stay. Phnom Penh is where most business, work-permit and long-term visa activity actually happens — it's home to the General Department of Immigration's main office and the country's largest expat professional community. Siem Reap draws a different crowd, built around tourism, hospitality and the Angkor heritage economy, with its own immigration office used to processing visitors and long-stayers alike. Kampot and Kep are smaller and quieter — riverside and coastal towns popular with retirees and remote workers who want Cambodia without capital-city pace, though with a thinner immigration and services infrastructure than the two larger cities. CITY GUIDES Each of the four has a guide covering the local immigration office, what living there actually costs, healthcare, and the practical detail that matters once your visa is approved rather than only the paperwork to get one. Phnom Penh: the capital, the General Department of Immigration's main office, and the largest expat professional community. Siem Reap: the Angkor heritage economy, with an immigration office used to both visitors and long-stayers. Kampot: a riverside town with a slower pace and a thinner services infrastructure. Kep: the coast, quieter still, popular with retirees and remote workers. If you are headed somewhere outside these four, tell us where. We would rather give you the current position on that specific office than have you generalise from a city we have written about and a situation that is not yours.
