Yes — Australian nationals qualify for the EB (Ordinary) Visa extension on the same published criteria as every other nationality; there's no Australia-specific barrier to the visa itself. Where nationality does matter is the police clearance — and that is requested in some cases rather than forming part of every application. Where one is asked for, the document Australians use is the AFP (Australian Federal Police) National Police Check, and the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh can't obtain it for you — under Australia's Privacy Act, only you can request it directly from the AFP, before or after arriving in Cambodia.

Quick FAQ
Which police clearance do Australian nationals use if one is requested for the EB visa?
The AFP (Australian Federal Police) National Police Check — choose the application purpose with care. The code widely quoted in Australian visa guidance covers checks supplied to an Australian government department, which is not this situation; confirm with the AFP which purpose applies to a check requested by a foreign government. The Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh cannot obtain this on your behalf under the Australian Privacy Act; only you can request it directly from the AFP.
Is Cambodia a Hague Apostille Convention member?
No — Cambodia isn't a Hague Apostille Convention member. Australian-issued documents for use in Cambodia need consular legalisation rather than a simple apostille stamp.
How much does the EB Ordinary Visa extension cost?
A typical agent rate for a 12-month EB extension runs around USD 285–300. Shorter 1- or 3-month extensions don't require a sponsor and cost less; a 12-month extension requires a sponsor (a Cambodian employer, your own registered company, or an agent's umbrella arrangement). Rate indicative as of August 2026; agency pricing moves.
Does the EB visa let me work in Cambodia?
No — the EB visa itself doesn't grant work rights. Anyone actually employed in Cambodia also needs a separate work certificate from the Ministry of Labour. That separation now matters at renewal: converging secondary sources report 6- and 12-month EB extensions being refused, where employment is involved, if no valid or in-process work permit is on file, since labour and immigration records are now linked. Those reports describe working applicants; we have not established whether the same check reaches ordinary-route holders who are retired or earning wholly from abroad, so ask us rather than assume it either way. We confirm what your renewal will require before it falls due.
How long does the EB extension take to process?
Short-term extensions (1–3 months) typically take 3–7 business days. A 12-month extension, which involves sponsor verification, usually takes 5–10 business days — extending to around 2 weeks during the January–March peak season. Times are indicative as of August 2026 and are set by immigration, not by us.
Where's the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh?
Consular and passport services are open Monday to Friday, 08:00–12:00 and 13:30–15:00. Phone +855 23 266 500. The embassy can assist with a range of consular matters, but not with obtaining your AFP police check directly.
