Built to Do Business in Cambodia
If you're planning to work in Cambodia — for a Cambodian employer, or building your own operation — the EB business category visa is the foundation everything else is built on. We make sure that foundation is laid correctly.
Eligibility at a glance

- Precondition
- Required before a Cambodia work permit can be issued
- Extensions
- Renewable for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months without leaving Cambodia
- Paired with

- Not the same as
- The ordinary EB category — same visa class, different purpose (retirees, investors without employment, dependants)
The EB business category is for foreign nationals employed by a Cambodian company, operating or establishing a business registered in Cambodia, or investors making a qualifying investment requiring business-category status. If you're in Cambodia working remotely for a foreign employer with no Cambodian employer of your own, the ordinary EB visa is the more appropriate route — tell us your situation and we'll confirm which applies in five minutes.
Typical requirements: a letter from your Cambodian employer confirming role, salary and start date on company letterhead, the employing or operating company's Ministry of Commerce registration and business licence, your qualifications or professional credentials, and a passport valid at least six months beyond your intended stay. Business owners and investors additionally need their own company's Ministry of Commerce registration, evidence of investment or operational activity, and articles of incorporation or equivalent.
The EB business category is the required precursor to a Cambodia work permit — you cannot obtain a work permit without holding the correct visa category first. Getting this right at the start avoids significant complexity later; we set up both in the correct order, simultaneously where possible, alongside the Employment Card that's also required for employed foreign nationals.
Cambodia's business immigration runs across three parallel processes — the EB visa, work permit, and employment card — each with its own paperwork, timeline and renewal cycle. Most delays we see happen when one component falls out of sync with the others, which is exactly what coordinated handling exists to prevent.
How it works, step by step

Employed, business owner, or investor — the paperwork differs, we sort out which applies to you.

Documents assembled
We collect and check your employer letter, company documents, qualifications and supporting materials.
EB business category issued
Through the General Department of Immigration.
Work Permit and Employment Card, in parallel
Coordinated where possible so both process on aligned timelines rather than one waiting on the other.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Cambodia EB business visa?
The visa category required for foreign nationals working in Cambodia for a Cambodian employer or operating a Cambodia-registered business — the mandatory precursor to a work permit.
Can I work in Cambodia without a work permit?
No. Regardless of visa type, employment in Cambodia requires a work permit from the Ministry of Labour. The EB business visa lets you apply for one; it doesn't itself authorise work — both must be in place.
Can the Cambodia business visa be extended inside the country?
Yes — for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months, without leaving Cambodia. This is the standard renewal pathway for employed foreign nationals.
Is the business visa the same as the ordinary visa?
Same visa class (EB), different category. Business category is for those with a work or business purpose; ordinary category covers retirees, investors without employment, and dependants. The category determines what downstream documents you can apply for.
Can my family join me in Cambodia on a business visa?
Your dependants would typically apply for ordinary EB visas rather than business category, since they don't have an independent employment purpose — we handle both applications together.
Do I need a business visa just to register a company?
Not necessarily — company registration through the Ministry of Commerce is a separate process from immigration. But if you'll be actively operating the company in Cambodia, you'll need the EB business category. We advise on the right sequence for your structure.
What's the most common mistake with Cambodia business visas?
Starting work before both the EB business category and the work permit are actually in hand. It's tempting to begin once the EB is issued, but the work permit is what authorises employment — we make sure both land on aligned timelines before you start.
