The Card That Proves You're Here Legally
The Employment Card is the identity document that goes hand in hand with your work permit — and fewer employers know about it until an immigration check or a government contract requirement brings it up. We make sure both are in place from day one.

The Cambodia Employment Card, often called the E Card, is an official identity document issued by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to foreign nationals legally employed in Cambodia. It's separate from the work permit but required alongside it — two halves of the same compliance requirement, both current, both renewed annually.
You'll typically need to present it at immigration checks and border re-entry queries, for government tender or contract requirements that many public and semi-public entities carry, for bank account and financial services applications, for landlord or property administration requirements, and as part of your employer's internal HR compliance records. Not having it available when it's requested creates an unnecessary compliance gap, even when your work permit itself is perfectly valid.
The Employment Card is filed as part of the same Ministry of Labour process as the work permit, using the same document package with minimal additional paperwork — we include it as a standard part of every work permit application we handle, rather than a separate errand. Both are typically issued within a similar timeframe from a complete submission, and we renew both together each year, 45 days ahead of expiry, so neither lapses while the other stays current.
If you change employers, both the work permit and Employment Card need reissuing for the new employer — we manage that transition as one process, not two separate applications running out of sync.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Employment Card the same as the work permit?
No — two separate documents. The work permit authorises you to be employed in Cambodia; the Employment Card is an identity document confirming that authorisation. Both are issued by the MLVT, both are annual, and both are mandatory.
When do I need to show my Employment Card?
At immigration checks, border re-entry queries, government or public-sector contract requirements, bank account applications, and any situation where your employment status needs formal verification.
Can I get the Employment Card without a work permit?
No — it's issued to holders of valid work permits, obtained through the same MLVT process. We file both together.
Does the Employment Card need to be renewed?
Yes — annually, alongside the work permit and your EB business visa. We manage all three renewal cycles together so none lapses while the others are current.
What happens if my Employment Card lapses?
It creates a compliance gap even if your work permit stays current. We track the renewal date and initiate the process 45 days in advance — it shouldn't lapse when we're managing your file.
Do I need to carry my Employment Card at all times?
There's no legal requirement to carry it constantly — your passport satisfies most identification needs. Having it available during immigration checks or when entering government facilities is still strongly advisable; we recommend keeping a copy on hand.
Is the Employment Card required for NGO employees?
Typically yes — foreign nationals working under local employment contracts with NGOs, international organisations or diplomatic missions generally need both a work permit and an Employment Card, though specifics can vary by organisation type. We advise on your situation.
